Hot off the press! Preliminary results from IODP Expedition 389 (Hawaiian Drowned Coral Reefs) now published.

Hi All, following the Onshore Science Party (OSP) where 30 scientists gathered in Bremen, Germany in February to split, describe and sub sample beautiful fossil reef cores we collected offshore Hawaii, I am pleased to announce the publication of some of the first basic results.

Webster, J.M., Ravelo, A.C., Grant, H.L.J., and the Expedition 389 Scientists, 2024. Expedition 389 Preliminary Report: Hawaiian Drowned Reefs.International Ocean Discovery Program. https://doi.org/10.14379/iodp.pr.389.2024

The scientific objectives of the expedition were to recover high-quality fossil reef deposits to reconstruct a unique record of sea level, paleoclimate, reef responses and volcanic histories over the past 500,000 years.

The OSP, and Preliminary Report, represents a lot of work by a lot of people so I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the IODP ESO support staff and X389 Science Party members who worked so hard to make this happen.

We got some really spectacular cores and now the exciting post expedition Science begins!

Cheers

Jody
