Hot off the press! IODP Expedtion 389 (Hawaiian Drowned Reefs) Proceedings now published.

Hi All, it is with great pleasure to announce that the full Proceedings of IODP Expedition 389 (Hawaiian Drowned Reefs) have now been published online.

Webster, J.M., Ravelo, A.C., Grant, H.L.J., and the Expedition 389 Scientists, 2025. Hawaiian Drowned Reefs. Proceedings of the International Ocean Discovery Program, 389: College Station, TX (International Ocean Discovery Program). https://doi.org/10.14379/iodp.proc.389.2025

These Proceedings present a comprehensive summary of all data and samples that were collected on X389. It has been a truly mammoth effort by the entire X389 Science Party, the IODP ESO & ECORD staff, and IODP publications team to pull the Proceedings together. I would also like to acknowledge vast efforts of the last decades of mapping, data collection, and studies that led to an understanding of the offshore geology of Hawaiʻi and an interpretative framework that underpins X389. We thank the many scientists and institutions that contributed to and supported these previous studies. We also acknowledge the tireless efforts of the Benthic drilling team and the captain and crew of the MMA Valour during the offshore drilling phase of X389.

We hope that these Proceedings will full form a solid foundation for post expedition science being undertaken the X389 Science Party, and ultimately the wider scientific community over the next years.

Finally, I am also very happy to announce that my colleagues and I were recently awarded a large ARC Discovery grant (DP250102180) in the last round to support further post expedition analysis of the data and samples collected on X389. In the coming months we will be advertising several positions (i.e. full funded 3 year postdoc and several PhD positions).

Exciting times ahead and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you’re interested in getting involved in this exciting project.

Cheers

Jody
