Md Yousuf Gazi is a PhD candidate in the School of Geosciences at the University of Sydney, where he studies the morphodynamics of beaches in estuaries and bays under the supervision of Ana Vila-Concejo. His research focuses on understanding how beaches within estuaries and large bays (BEBs) respond to varying hydrodynamic and geomorphological settings, including changes in wave climate, wind exposure, sediment characteristics, and estuarine processes. By integrating long-term beach profile records with geospatial datasets and process-based indicators, his work aims to improve the understanding and predictions of beach morphology and behaviour in sheltered coastal environments. Gazi’s PhD builds on his background as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka, where he previously specialised in Environmental Geology, GIS, and Remote Sensing. He completed both his B.Sc. (Hons) and MS in Geology at the University of Dhaka, graduating first in his faculty and receiving several national awards, including the Prime Minister Gold Medal (2015) and the Dean’s Award (2016, 2019). His prior research includes a government-funded project on coastal and fluvial dynamics. He has published around 40 peer-reviewed journals and continues to collaborate on coastal and fluvial geomorphology projects in Bangladesh and Australia.
