Hugo Fahey

Hugo is an honours student researching the formation of magnesium carbonate minerals under Earth surface conditions with focus on trace element dynamics. This research is supervised by Dr Bree Morgan, A/Prof Jody Webster and Dr Jessica Hamilton (Australia’s Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation) and aims to contribute unique insights into some ongoing geochemical issues in the formation of kinetically restrained minerals in low-temperature environments. Understanding how these minerals precipitate has the potential to inform future carbon capture technologies. Hugo is working with ephemeral lake sediment samples from South Australia and British Columbia, Canada.
