Title: ‘ What to do if academia isn’t for you? – Career opportunities for geoscience majors in infrastructure planning and construction’

Abstract: Ann Azzopardi is the Project Sustainability Manager on the Sydney Metro City & Southwest Tunnel and Station Excavation Works project, working as part of the delivery contractor joint venture between John Holland CPB Contractors Ghella (JHCPBG). During her career, Ann has performed roles in site environmental management, environmental planning and assessment, and sustainability management, in both the private and public sectors.
Ann will discuss:
- Brief background about herself – her studies and career to date
- Overview of the types of career opportunities in environmental and sustainability planning and management
- Advice and tips of how to enter this field – graduate programs, choosing between public and private sectors (govt, delivery contractors, consulting, etc.), exploring different options and not being afraid to change pathways
- The value of networking in a small industry
This talk will be of benefit to anyone interesting in finding out about careers opportunities in environmental management, environmental planning and assessment, and sustainability management, in both the private and public sectors.
Bio: Ann studied a Bachelor of Science at the University of Sydney, majoring in Environmental Science and Geography. She completed Honours research on the topic of coral reef geomorphology as an indicator of past sea level and climate change.
